Today we have three things for homework two of which are due first thing tomorrow morning

Math there was a list of practice problems written on the board, you are to have all of them completed. See the Math page if you need some help remembering how to do them

Creative writing, we wrote those one page narratives of what you did on the weekend, you were to include strong verbs, descriptive nouns and adjectives and most importantly sensory passages. That means that all five of your senses (touch, sight, taste, smell and hearing) needed to be included.
Remember please do not write: I saw the green glass. Then I sat on the soft grass. I heard the grass crunch as I sat on it. Then I smelt the grass. Oh yeah, then I tasted the grass. That is NOT GOOD descriptive writing, I know you can all do much better than that.

Spelling is also due on Friday. Please remember to write out each word ten times, unless you earned five extra times due to inappropriate behaviour during class.

April 11th, 2011

Ash Wednesday - it is the beginning of Lent. Today we have ashes placed on our forehead to remind us that we are not perfect and that we sin, but also to remind us of our loving God who forgives our sins and gave us Jesus to die on a cross so that we can have ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN! Jesus didn't have to die like that in pain when his friends abandoned Him and others make fun of and tortured Him, but He did because Jesus has that much faith in God's plan and in us! That is how much Jesus loves us, and we were not even born yet.

We received a card with a little prayer/reflection on it. I hope that you all remember to use it each day to think about what Lent is all about. I'll be praying for you all!

Remember to do your Sobey's fundraiser and sell those gift cards.

Jan 30th

I was listening to some internet radio and this song came on. I have to share it with you as it is great! Here are the lyrics and the video is below them:

Hey Steve!
Hey Ed, that sounds nice, what is it?
Thank you, it’s an alphabet song I’m working on
Oh great, a whole new alphabet,
I just learned the old one.

A is for aisle
B is for bdelliums
C is for czar
And if you see him, would you mind telling him-

Okay, hang on a second, yeah aisle?
Yeah, aisle like a, like a theatre.
Alright, okay, and bdelliums?
Bdelliums, it’s a gum like tree resin, it starts with a silent B
And then czar?
Yeah, it’s uh- like a Russian czar.
You know, everyone knows apple ball and cat,
I wanted to get into some you know,
some stranger words.
Right, I see what you’re doing.

D is for djinn
E for Euphrates
F is for fohn, but not like when I call the ladies

I thought phone started with a “p”...like a “ph”
No its f-o-h-n, it’s a kind of wind
Yeah, I know what you mean by wind

G for Gnarly,
I for irk
H is for hour
J for jalapeños
Good in either corn or flour (tortillas…)
Nice rhyme
K is for knick-knack
L is for llama

Pramma, llama, ding - what’s so strange about llama?
Llama, its starts with two L’s
What’s the second one for?
No idea.
I know, loser.

N for neumonic
M is for mdomo
O is for ouija board
P for pneumonia pterodactyl and psychosis
Q is for qat

Okay, Q - qat? What?
Yeah it’s uh...q-a-t,
It’s an evergreen shrub
It’s a perfect scrabble word because it’s a q with no u,
There’s not many of those
You have too much time on your hands.

R is for R-gyle
No, it isn’t

Okay, you’re right; I couldn’t find a good “r” word

S is for Saar, a lovely German river
T for tsunami, a wave that makes me quiver
U is for urn, but not like earning money
V for vraisemblance from French,
And therefore kind of funny
W for wren, wrinkly, and who.
X is for Xian, an ancient Chinese city, true!

Ancient Chinese city, huh?
My guitar player, some hotshot.

Y is for yperite, a very nasty gas.
And zed’s the final letter
And by final, I mean last.

Okay, when you say zed,
For the benefit of our American friends
You really mean Z, right?
No I mean Zed, like, like Zed Zed Top.
Zed Zed Top?
Yeah, you know the guys with the big long beards
Well, except the guy whose name is Beard,
he has a mustache
I always thought that was interesting
You done with the alphabet?
No extra letters I haven’t heard of?
I think so.
Well this was a great help, I think, you know,
the contribution you made to world literacy
Well, I’m just saying, kids
I’m just saying
Think outside the box a little bit
Box with an “r”
Yeah, well, no, box with a b-a-l-k-s, like a pitcher.
Ahh, as opposed to b-a-c-h-s,
Right, think outside the “balks”

We have Library tomorrow as well, so bring in your reading race pink booklets.

Jan 21st, 2011

Today in math we expanded on the Break it Down multiplication method. There were four questions that you had to do they are on the Math page, as well as an example and the steps. Remember that the steps need to written down on your practice problems page. If you were one of the people that was having some difficulty my suggestion is that you write out the steps for every question and then you check them off as you complete each step.

You also have to have your parents' help you to revise and edit your Fireworks story. The focus is to be on creating a strong voice, which means that you can transport the reader to the place and time that you are talking about. One of the best ways to do this is to make an emotional connection to your readers. If you can do that you'll have them right where you want them, and they'll be hooked on your story!

Congratulations to Carrington who won by a landslide the Long A competition.

Congratulations to Tyler who won the noun competition with the word sole.
Congratulations to Rebeca who won the verb competition with the word strut.
Congratulations to Carrington who won the adjective competition with the word affordable.

Next week we will have a new Theme and be able to declare new weekly winners!

Have a great weekend :)

Jan 20th, 2011

There is no homework for today other than the spelling test is tomorrow.
We will also be announcing the winner of the Long A and “Shoe” competition.

Remember if you didn’t pick out a book that has a strong voice in it that you are going to hand in please do that for tomorrow.
I’m taking them in for the marks.

SKIING FORMS ARE DUE TOMORROW!!!!!!!!

Where it says:
Home
Math
Science
Social
Spelling

I will tell you and we will put it in your agendas what pages you will need to check. General cool and neat videos that I show in class will be here on the main page or just any general announcements. Spelling has it's own page and I will be posting all the words and the assignment each week on the spelling page, just so you know. I hope that this helps. I will also start posting homework assignments on the main page, especially major assignments so that you and your parents will have the information.

Thank you for such a great week. I really feel blessed to be back at school!

Religion assignment:

You have chosen a saint from the list already so now all you need to do is use your time wisely when we have the computers and do some researchon your saint.
Google, Wikipedia, New Advent, Catholic Online are good places to start, or end up on, though New Advent is quite hard to read. So look up your saintand find out the following things:
1. When and Where they lived
2. What they did in their life (what job they had, if their family was important who were they, what did they do to become a saint, and an interesting fact about them, just enough information so we know who they are)
3. Why they became the patron saint of whatever they are the patron saint of
The material will be presented in the form of an information pamphlet, poster, or an infomercial trying to sell a vacation to where your saint lived and did
his/her work, or some other creative form, which must be pre-approved by Ms. Toupin.

You will have to explain your pamphlet or poster to the class and after your brief presentation answer questions from the class.

How you will be marked:
Did you cover the required material?
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Was your presentation interesting and creative?
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Was the written material clean and neat, with no spelling or grammatical errors?
0 1 2 3 4 5

Could you answer questions from the students, within reason?
0 1 2

Did you use your class time effectively and efficiently?
0 1 2 3 4

October 26th, 2010

I have received some emails that the links to the test answers aren't up and I am trying my best to remedy the problem but so far I have not been able to do so. If you have any questions about the marking or how I got any of the answers just ask me. Or you can come in at 8:15 am on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, recess or lunch!
